Post subject:  Cannot see X10 HDD from networked computer

Hello.
Using Windows 10 latest update.
I have an X10 that is set up wirelessly and connected to my router.
On my PC I go to File Explorer, Network. I see my current computer, and the two media devices for the X10 (Media server and Renderer). But I want to access the folders on the X10's HDD and I don't see the X10 listed as a computer and cannot see the folders.
I have set up network properties in Windows to enable sharing.
I can see the X10 database via the web interface in my browser, so I know it is connected to the network. I can also use internet radio on the X10.
I have started the FunctionDiscovery services in Services which the Windows 10 update set by default to Stopped, and changed their startup to Automatic (Delayed). They are running.
I have rebooted my PC and the X10.
Why can't I see the X10 HDD in Windows File Explorer?
How do I access these files and folders from my PC?

@shuttie27
Try accessing via samba on windows PC from RUN (Press windows symbol + "R")
Type \\X10 or the ip address \\192.168.1.090 (An Example)
Sometimes router & PC do not refresh devices, so you can map the drive, create a shortcut link or type the location :)

Same with my pro x100 sometimes it pops up on my network laptop (mac or linux), else i just access via a shortcut icon or SMB.

Hi AudioAndrex
Thanks for your reply. Using your information and the information contained in the thread
viewtopic.php?f=9&t=1584
I have finally been able to view the files and folders.
When I followed your instructions alone I got a Microsoft error message regarding the SMB protocol which is disabled by default in the 1709 update of Windows 10. So then following the instructions in the thread mentioned I was finally able to see the X10 in File Explorer - though only as a media server. When I double-clicked it, it opened in Windows Media Player and I could see the library.
To access the folders and files I had to access the X10 using your instructions, in which case it was viewable as a network drive - though it's still flaky; the X10 appears and disappears in File Explorer (which is probably a network issue).
What a rigmarole!
Thanks for your help!
Roger

Have you tried mapping:
1. Computer/Map network drive
2. \\x10 (host name or IP address)
3. Check reconnect
4. Click finish

The media server option normally appears under windows MEDIA DEVICES.
This is used for playing music or directing the music to other devices on the network like an APP on a smart phone etc.

Thank you, I think that sounds a bit technical for me. I don't know where or what the 'Computer/Map network drive is'. Do you have time to explain further please?

Hi this is just a way to connect to your device drive.
I have done the same with my Pro X100.
On my laptop->computer->Tools->Map...

For a mac, you need to use the devices section on the computer or terminal...:

Thank you stane, sorted out with that well known remedy of turning everything off and on (albeit for the umpteenth time!!) and some updating!. Cheers, Joss

I too cannot see my X10 Database on my desktop computer albeit it is an Apple Mac not Windows like the original poster. My X10 is also set up wirelessly and connected to my router. I try to open the X10 on the Mac and on some days it will open, but frequently it simply won't open.
I have tried using both Safari and Firefox browsers and I've tried switching off and on the router, the Mac and the X10. Can anyone suggest why the connection is not working and is there any way round it please? If the Wireless system is wrong, is there instead a Wired answer to this? I have tried plugging in a wire between X10 (PC USB socket no 7 in the handbook) and a USB socket in the Mac, but all I see is Recovery Files and nothing else. HELP please if you can (in layman's language too!!). Thank you, Joss

Sorry this is confusing, are you concerned about the web-GUI or SMB (SAMBA) folder access?
1. You can simply access with the RUN or network section on a PC or laptop running windows eg. search for the "RUN"prompt, type the IP of the device or host name (\\X10 or \\192.XXXXXX).
2. Webinterface (Web-GUI) requires a browser ...

You may be having signal issues, so the router could be slow in detecting devices on the network ...or connect the x10 to the router via power line adapters or LAN cable (ethernet cable).
Sorry, i do not use the X10 i upgraded to the pro-x100 a while ago so i am not sure on the stability. Hope this helps.
