This section is for the users' to post tips (features) on using the X10 not questions like: "How do I add album cover ART?" or "How do I connect to my friend's wifi at the North Pole?" :? - when that could be found in the online manual or on many posts by users.
Thank You

This is part wishing and part work-around.
Really the machine should be able to print out the album lists as a spreadsheet not just a pdf.
Please Cocktail. Please let us be able to also print an album list as a spreadsheet INCLUDING genre and year!!!!!
Have you ever tried converting a pdf to a spreadsheet. It is a nightmare.
I have done it manually cutting and pasting and then fixing errors but it took all day.

There must be a better way for next time i want to do it.
So i connected the machine to my PC in USB mode and copied the song.db file to my PC to play with.
I am not a computer expert so it took me all day to figure out how to open it (a false lead was sqlite which appears to be for building a database).
The 2 ways i found were sqlitebrowser at
http://cznic.dl.sourceforge.net/project/sqlitebrowser/sqlitebrowser/3.1/sqlitebrowser-3.1.0-win32.exe
and sqliteadmin
http://sqliteadmin.orbmu2k.de/
But using both ways my problem was that the second column in the album list shows up as 'Fail'.
[In the pdf it works fine and gives a list of the artists].
My questions are
1. How do i fix this 'Fail' without having to go to college to learn sql!
Because if i can fix this fail then i can make a spreadsheet identical to the pdf in a matter of minutes.
2. Using sqlitebrowser I made a pretty nice table of the 'songs' with no 'fail'.
So that is another work-around.
The problem is that the artists and genre are coded. The code is very simple and it is just a matter of copying/pasting from the artist list file and replacing the coded number.
But i have 1,300 artists. It would take at least a day.
Is there a way to add the artist and genres quickly? Do i need a more complex program or is it something to do with the filters.
I am a newbie with db. files. I searched the forum archives but couldn't find these questions although i am sure they must have been asked before.

I'm not sure if this will be of any use to you, but.
If you use Mp3tag http://www.mp3tag.de/en/download.html on the files that you have copied to your PC, you can select the files that you require and then export them as a list
in: csv, rtf, txt, or html. format.

You can also download any of the export configurations that have been submitted by Mp3tag users, here:http://forums.mp3tag.de/index.php?showtopic=1563
most of them have a preview option so you can see what the end result will look like.
Note that you will have to install any configuration file that you download, and there are instructions on how to do this near the top of the page.

This is the preview page to one of my favourite output configurations: http://download.mp3tag.de/export/html_dano_albumlist_js_ex.html
in html with a nice (clickable) drop-down menu style.

Note that Mp3tag reads the embedded tags so will not recognise WAV files from the X10/30 as these use a separate id3 file for the tag info.

Thanks for the reply.
I use mp3tag to tag flac files for importing to the x10 database.
But it isn't the actual files i want to edit now it is a spreadsheet extracted from the songs.db
Right now it looks something like this. A screenshot from spreadsheet.

but i want it show the info as in the webgui. Notice there is no artist or genre etc. only a coded number

Best to sort in 'A_Z' the by ARTIST or ALBUM & then import to file...
(Just click on the RED section, display by ALBUM mode on the web-gui)

I have used Mp3tag to create this, by exporting the selected tracks as a .csv file.
Use the shortcut ctrl+e to open the export configuration window and then choose one of the .csv options.
If the layout below is close to what you are after then I can give you that configuration info (which is just a text file) to copy & paste.

Thanks MusicLaScala.
Sorry for being thick.
When you say click on the red do you mean the little arrows to arrange alphabetically?

What am i missing? I know how to arrange albums and songs alphabetically but how do i 'import to file'?
Incidentally when i sort alphabetically i lose the icon to print a pdf.

Bertie Bacon.
I have figured out what you mean.
And yes you are definitely a genius!
I have dragged my whole Database folder from Samba to mp3tag.
It is reading it now so i think it is going to work (it will take a while).

I had no idea you could drag more than one folder into mp3tag. (When i tried drag one folder into an already opened folder it cleared the first folder. So i got the wrong idea 2 folders couldn't be done.).

This solution is nothing short of a revelation. So i am well pleased.

Still not sure what you mean by

so if you have time i would appreciate a step by step guide for thickos.

I have nearly got it.
I have all the info i want in Mp3tag but when i export it as a csv file it doesn't copy all the columns.
It only shows these columns
Title: Artist: Album: Track: Year: Length: Size: Last Modified: Path: Filename
So i am missing many columns but these are the ones which i would like:
Genre, Bitrate and either codec or tag (to show file type).
They are displaying fine in mp3tag but don't get exported in the csv file.
What am i doing wrong?
