My database has got seriously messed up after reinstalling old firmware. It now ignore most of the entries I've made over the years, creating genres, calling artists composers, that sort of thing.

Anyway I am painstakingly trying to put things right. One regular problem is that individual songs have got separated from their albums. The songs still have the correct album name but they won't combine with their buddies into a single album. They sit in the database with same album name, same cover picture, same artist but separate.

Any ideas on how I can make them recombine?

when all else fails - read the instructions! The manual explains how to do this. It's a bit of a faff but it works!

You didn't mention which model, however it is all about the metadata thus as long as the songs are related to an album you can always sort the music collection. For example if you have Beethoven's (BPO/Sir Rattle) 5th with 4 movements (tracks), even if the tracks get separated for some reason, those tracks would still be linked with the original album (based on the original metadata).
You just need to display the tracks by album .
Let me know if you are still confused :)
God bless
