Post subject:  Wireless Playing in Garden?

Hi everyone
Looking for some advice - apologies upfront if the answer to this appears on another thread
I have an X10
Id like to be able to play music in the garden
The dinosaur in me has me dragging speakers from the living room to the garden via the patio doors
There has to be a better way!
Wireless speakers? If so - any recommendations?
Sonos accessories?
I have tried playing music via my laptop in the garden but its not powerful enough and can barely hear it

Open to all suggestions

Thanks in advance

You could stream from the X10 to a smartphone or tablet using an app and then output the sound to a Bluetooth or wireless speaker
I bought a Cambridge audio Minx Go http://www.cambridgeaudio.com/products/minx-go-uk for Mrs Bacon this Christmas and she uses it to stream (uncompressed FLAC) from a Samsung Galaxy S3.
I was pleasantly surprised by the sound quality and volume from such a small and fully portable (battery or mains powered) Bluetooth speaker.
You do however have to be realistic in your expectations of these devices as they are aimed more at portability than turning your garden into Glastonbury.

There are bigger wireless speakers available but they tend to be mains powered because of the increased current needed, and should not be used out in the garden for safety reasons :!: .
I would advise you to listen to a few speakers before purchase as the features and quality do vary quite a bit.

There are of course some pitfalls to streaming for example depending on what format your files are in, that could cause you some problems.
The main offender is Wav, due to the lack of a tagging standard. It is of little use if you want to stream your music as the receiving player will almost certainly not recognise the tags.
You may also have problems with any high resolution files. Which if you were thinking about a Sonos system, be aware that it does not (currently) support them.

To get the best results when streaming from the X10 it would be advisable to connect it to the router via Ethernet ;) .

can I recommend you try wireless headphones ... I really dislike the neighbours playing music in the garden (our tastes differ!)

Thanks for replies on this
Its shared music in the garden Im after - so headphones are out

Ive been advised by Richer Sounds that the X10 doesnt support this and Id need special wireless speakers that have their own transmitter that Id need to plug into the line out socket

Ive been directed to some JBL speakers that came with a receiver - but theyre not made anymore!

Any more ideas?
Will this functionality be introduced?
Thanks
