Post subject:  Recording from Sony Micro Hi Fi

Hi
Bought the X10 this week, delighted with it and successful wireless connection to Mac and able to stream through SAMBA and ripping CDs with album art. I want to transfer my vinyl and cassettes to the X10. The separate turntable connects to the Sony hi fi with RCA red and white audio plugs to play Vinyl and I play Cds and Cassettes on the hi fi .The hi fi also has optical digital out socket but no others ( 10 years old). Is there a cable I could get to enable me to connect to the X10 to record vinyl and cassettes? Thank you.Christina.

Hi dear,
Please use an RCA to JACK - from your turntable & connect it to the X10.
Use the AUX button to record ...............
There is a video here about editing & stuff:

Also from the online manual see: 18-8-1.How to play

You can also stream via UPNP
If you type your X10's ip address or "type X10" in the connect via Mac, you will be able to view your X10 HDD on your computer.
(Works on windows....)
See firmware notes on tagging your music - auxiliary: Notes R1554 will help

On the subject of CD cover see here, good tip:

Hi ajct

I forgot to say that the RCA audio jack cable is wired into the turntable so I cannot take it out to put in the one that you suggested! I thought I could find a way of connecting my Sony Hi Fi to the X10 to do the recording. I don't know if its possible with the only optical socket on the Hi Fi. Thank you.

You can also use a jack to jack to record onto the X10.
Its best to listen out for the sound rendering thru the X10, to be sure it's ok to record.
Else you will end up with a WAV file badly recorded.
It records in a long stream, you might want to stop and record again (when a track ends).
>>track 1,2,3,4.....
For example:
1.Connect cable (jack to jack or RCA to jack)
2. Press AUX on remote (check music quality/make sure all is well)
2b. You might want to do a test one - 30 seconds (Press record & Stop)
3. Check HDD1-->Auxiliary recording folder-->Play track (edit/tag/copy to music db.......whatever you want)
-> If you convert the file (from WAV) to say ogg/flac or mp3 the file will move to the "music db"
(Can edit with a remote or a USB keyboard)
To keep all the into consistent use the artist/genre/album help.
This ensure that you don't have "LSO" and "lsO"
See (point number 3): viewtopic.php?f=20&t=132
.........
sure you know what to do :)

Hi MusicLasca

Thank you for your help. I can see HDD on my Mac and I have been looking at You Tube and got the artwork except for MP4 which seems to be a problem.

Hi Admin

You will see my reply to ajct. The rca audio jack cable is wired into the turntable that is why I am trying to find a way to record from the Sony to the X10 but I only have the optical socket. Please see page 18 of the attached manual.

Hi Christina,
Just use the (23) Phones jack - Jack (Micro system) to Jack (X10).

You will think I am a dumb blond but which sockets in the X10? There is a red plug and a white one attached to the cable from the turntable but but I don't know which sockets at the back of the X10 to put them in?

ah, u found the "rca-jack", LINE IN (AUX)-X10.
You can plug any device like mp3, recording devices like pen or any thing with a sound output.
That should do it for ya.
